"One of our favorite local acts, Darren J and Blackkat Bone are tearing up the blues scene in Memphis."
- Kevin Cubbins, Beale Street Caravan, August 2009

"Darren J and Blackkat Bone is an exciting new entrant to the blues music scene in Memphis and already turning heads (and ears) at their performances. Great originals and covers, punctuated with stinging, well-phrased solos by guitarist/vocalist front-man Darren J, and tight, punchy grooves by veteran rhythm section mates, Kenny Allyn (bass) and WC Garrison (drums)! Highly recommend you catch this act as soon, and as often as you can!"
- Dave Bennett/Former President, Memphis Blues Society, August 2009

Biography
With the release of his self-produced CD "Bluesman USA" (2009), "Further Up That Road" (2008), and "Panhandle Blues" (2007), Darren J has steadily earned the respect of his peers in the blues community throughout the world. He has attained much interest from the press, radio stations and established to rising artists everywhere. He has shared the stage with such notables has Alligator Recording Artist Kenny Neal and Delta Blues Musician Lonnie Shields. In 2008, he competed in the 24th International Blues Challenge on Beale St. in Memphis Tennessee, as the representatives of the Blues Society of N.W. Florida. In 2009, he made recording contributions on Stacy Brooks studio album produced by Kenny Neal and Stackhouse Recording artist Memphis Gold.  Darren J is now an artist of the Memphis based I55 Productions Record Label and is soon scheduled to begin the recording and subsequent release of his debut CD. Darren J is also the President of the Memphis Blues Society and a member of The Blues Foundation.

Darren J joined the U.S. Navy in 1996 taking a short break from the music scene in Miami from where he started to play in bands at an early age as a guitarist and a songwriter. It was not until 2005, at the age of 28, an age when other musicians were either already established or had long ago put their dream aside for the realities of life, did Darren finally decide to leave the military to pursue his musical ambitions.

He formed the Darren J Trio in 2006. Home based in Pensacola Florida, the group was best described as a hard working traveling band that played all through Northwest Florida averaging more than 150 shows a year. The band's live shows, highly praised from fans, the Pensacola News Journal and local radio stations for their memorable performances, consisted of traditional and contemporary original high energy electric blues. In late 2008, he moved to Washington D.C. and joined forces with up and coming artist Stacy Brooks as her guitar player.

Darren J resides in Memphis TN and is joined by musicians Kenny Allyn (Bass) and W.C. Garrison (Drums) to form Darren J and Blackkat Bone. Kenny and W.C. are long time veterans of the Memphis music scene and have backed up many of the top local blues acts present.

With the release of their first CD, Panhandle Blues, the Darren J. Trio displays a unique sound, honed and perfected in Pensacola, Fl. We now have a musical style that reflects the ambiance of the Florida Panhandle and captures the social relevance of this up and coming blues band."

Pensacola’s latest blues rock sensation, known as Darren J. Trio. Not even a year after being formed, the Trio has a professionally produced album and a hopeful outlook...Playing with conviction, energy and passion is what makes the band appealing to all age groups...

The first time I heard the Darren J., I was immediately impressed with their sound, which they like to call "Panhandle blues...The album, a mixture of rock, blues and soul, is sure to impress blues lovers and get blues novices addicted.
